Questions to Ask When Hiring a Professional Window Washer

When you're in charge of a retail store, apartment complex, university, or office building, you never want to assume that you or your maintenance staff should handle your window cleaning. Not only could it be dangerous for you or your janitor to be on a ladder cleaning upper story windows, but getting those windows clean may require the use of special tools and cleaning solutions. When you are ready to hire a professional window washer, note some questions you might want to ask so you know what their work includes.
Ask about special visits, over and above standard cleaning
If there has been a storm, your windows may be especially dirty and dusty. You may also be planning a special event, such as a sale in your store or a weekend for prospective students at your university, and want to ensure your building is in tiptop shape. Ask your window cleaners about these special visits and how much charge, as well as how much notice they need to fit you into their schedule. Don't assume you can just call them at the last minute or that these additional visits will be priced the same as your standard service, but ask ahead of time so there are no surprises.
Ask about special stains, graffiti, and the like
It's not unusual for storefronts and universities to suffer the occasional graffiti, and other buildings may have stains on the window after renovation work or nearby construction. Always ask if your window washer can address these as part of their standard service or if there are extra charges; you might also note if you should alert them to these problems before they come out, so they can bring special cleansers and tools as needed.
Ask if they clean inside the windows
While window washers typically specialize in cleaning the outside of windows, you may eventually wind up with fingerprints and other marks on the inside of your windows as well. However, not all commercial window cleaners clean the inside of windows, as they may use long-handled tools and lots of water that would get in the way and create a mess inside. If you will need the inside of your windows cleaned, be sure you ask about this and note any special requirements; they may not remove knickknacks and office equipment from windowsills or any furniture and other items blocking their path, and you would need to do this before they arrive.
